The Designated Federal Minister of Health participates in the World Health Organization meetings in Cairo

The Designated Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, participated at the opening of the seventieth session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, held at the WHO Regional Office in Cairo under the slogan “Together for a Healthier Future,” and which its agenda continues until next Thursday.

The opening included a speech by the Regional Director of the WHO Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, a speech of the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, and a number of guests of the current session.

During the meetings, the Minister also met with the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, in the presence of the Director of the World Health Organization Office in Sudan, Dr. Nima Saeed Abid, Sudan’s candidate for the position of Regional Director of the World Health Organization in the Eastern Mediterranean, Prof. Ahmed Farah Shadoul, and the Acting Director of the General Department of International Health, Dr. Alaa Al-Tayeb Muddathir.

During the meeting, the most important health challenges facing the health sector in Sudan were discussed, especially during the current period due to war, and ways to reduce and overcome them, to achieve a healthier future and ensure a better life for future generations by working to promote sustainable health in the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region, and working to increase the interventions of the Organization, especially in providing the pharmaceutical supply of essential and life-saving medicines, in addition to combating epidemic diseases, especially diseases caused by vectors.

The minister said that donors from sister countries and international and regional organizations had a role in bridging the gap, but what was provided did not cover the real health need for basic and life-saving medicines, in addition to medical consumables.

The Minister gave a detailed explanation of the priorities of the Federal Ministry of Health during this stage, revealing the preparation of supply stores in the states of (Red Sea, Gazira, White Nile, and River Nile) to receive medicines and distribute them to the various states of Sudan, demanding World Health to increase interventions and rapid response and working together to restore the health system in Sudan.

The Minister pointed out that there are diseases that were combated in the past due to the efforts made, but it came back again due to war, calling on the Organization to provide rapid screening reagents for some diseases.
Thanking Dr. Tedros for his efforts and the efforts of the Organization in providing aid and support to Sudan.

For his part, Dr. Tedros stressed support for the health sector in Sudan, promising to increase interventions quickly, according to the need determined by the ministry, hoping that Sudan would enjoy security, to achieve development, stressing that health in Sudan is one of the priorities of the World Health Organization.

On the other hand, the Federal Minister of Health met with several Heads of Delegations of Member States, and during the meetings, many issues and challenges facing public health globally and in the Eastern Mediterranean region were discussed, in an effort to achieve a healthier future in the region.
