Federal Minister of Health: Merowe Medical City is a project to localize specialties in the country

Wednesday, at the office of the Designated Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, in Quarantine in Port Sudan, with the Designated Governor of the Northern State, Abdeen Awadallah, and the Commissioner-General of the Social Security Investment Authority, Dr. Saif Al-Dawla Saad, the Director General of the Ministry of Health and Social Development in the state, Dr. Satti Hassan Satti, and the Administrative Director of Merowe Medical City, Al-Muiz Khatim Mohamed Idris, Representative of the Medical City, with the participation of the Secretary-General of the National Health Insurance Fund, Dr. Farouq Nour Al-Daim, a meeting was held about the health conditions in the Northern state, in the presence of the leaders of the Federal Ministry.

The Minister said that the meeting came to ensure the continuation of medical services in general and to arrange for an emergency situation, especially since the Northern state is among the states that have become densely populated due to expatriates, and to discuss the state’s vision for introducing quality health services (developing ophthalmology and urology services, localizing kidney and liver transplantation, and heart surgery). In addition to providing diagnostic services, working to provide an MRI machine, and working to restore health insurance services, pointing to the state’s vision to establish building for a branch of the National Fund for Medical Supplies.

The Minister noted the necessity of codifying the partnership with the Merowe Insurance Hospital (Merawi Medical City) in terms of its great role, through the quality services it provides, especially in light of these circumstances that the country is going through, which are dialysis, cardiac catheterization, oncology, and adding treatment of children’s oncology after the state of Gazira becaame out of service, calling for the integration of roles between the Ministry and the City to provide a service that contributes to the localization of treatment inside.
The Minister draw the attention to the necessity of having a mechanism to add new medical services, considering this a Powerful push to the health system.

For his part, the Designated Governor Abdeen Awadallah praised the great and effective role of Federal Ministry of Health and providing support and participation in bridging the gaps in the health sector, praising the performance of the sector in his state, describing it as one of the most distinguished sectors, and working to make the immunization campaign against measles and rubella a successful, calling for the necessity of activating services of health insurance.
The Governor praised the role of Merowe Medical City, stressing the provision of the necessary support to it to contribute to providing the service, noting that it provided treatment services to the wounded and injured in the Battle of Karama, extending the invitation to host a meeting of health ministers in the states and presenting a vision for developing services in the state within the forum.

In the same context, the state’s Minister of Health, Dr. Satti Hassan Satti, pointed out the benefit from the medical personnel coming to the state and their role in developing health services, declaring his commitment to health and working to provide facilities to encourage the pharmaceutical industry, calling for the development of a tripartite vision (the ministry, the state, and Merowe Medical City) about how the City can function more and introduce more medical services.

The Commissioner-General of the Social Security Investment Authority, Dr. Saif Al-Dawla Saeed, explained that the Medical City needs support for the high operational cost, and work to continue the medical service, stressing the importance of partnerships that would develop health work, calling for the formation of a joint technical committee, and he committed to contributing to advancing the health process in Sudan.
